How to get there and get around the island.
Flights leave mainly from Gatwick and fly direct to Rhodes during the season which runs from about the first of April until the end of October. You can expect to pay anything from £150 to £250 per adult with very little reduction for children except babies under two which generally go free. The free papers and the evening standard normally have a good supply of bucket shops. Pay attention to the time you travel. Early morning flights are good but it is a false economy to save ten or twenty pounds and fly overnight. Sometimes you have little choice, it all depends on how well you sleep on airplanes. You can also fly from Heathrow where Chronos, Olympic and Agean airlines will fly to Athens and then transfer you to a local flight to Rhodes. This can take a lot more time depending on connections and is usually more expensive but does give you the flexibility to go and return on the days that suit you. The village is off the beaten track and it is useful to have a car or a moped/motorbike as you will need to get shopping from the next village Genadi. There are restuarants and cafes in the village so you will not starve. There is a very limited bus service to Lahania, one every day or every other day depending on the time of year leaving from Mandraki in the old town. The best way is to hire a car when you book your flight but remember if you arrive in the middle of the night you may have to wait until 7am when the car hire shops open at the airport. If you don't want to hire a car straight away then yoiu can take a taxi to Lahania which costs about £40.
